Cosmetic Scientists are needed in Suffolk. These chemists will be joining our busy Innovation and Creativity team and be an important part of the new cosmetic product creation process Suffolk. These cosmetic chemists will be on a full-time permanent role based at the site near Suffolk.

As a Development Chemist you would be working directly with key clients in the process of taking a their brief and turning it into a high value bespoke cosmetic product. You will be fully involved in researching, testing and selecting innovative raw materials to include them in the creation of high end products.

As you are directly involved with our clients you will follow the entire new product development process and ultimately see the products you helped create on the market in high end stores and online marketplaces. As with all team members you will be part of the internal testing panel where all creations are tested and discussed before presenting to customers.
We will provide in-house training to cover our bespoke systems.

This is a full time, permanent role, usually 37.5 hours per week Monday to Friday (08h30 to 17h00), based at our offices and factory Suffolk. Working hours may be flexible depending on candidate.
Responsibilities will include

• Research and source ingredients from suppliers as part of the client’s brief.
• Creating formulations and preparing samples on a lab scale for clients and stability/compatibility/challenge testing.
• Managing projects from concept through to launch with the help of the customer liaison team.
• Ensuring all formulation information and results are recorded accurately to ensure full traceability and reporting finds to the team as well as clients.
• Liaising with the Technical team on a regular basis to ensure all aspects of product development are on track requests
• Liaising with the wider team; Manufacturing, Purchasing, Quality and Client liaison team for updates on current projects and any issues for existing projects.
• To provide regulatory/compliance advice on all new and existing ranges to the company and the clients. To ensure compliance of raw materials, finished products and labelling in line with specialist cosmetic regulations and chemical regulatory standards.
• Liaising with safety assessors and regulatory advisors for product compliance.
• Liaising with administrator for the preparation of all technical documents that form the PIF.
• Assist manufacturing in scale-up of batches and trouble-shooting within manufacturing.
• Assist Quality for first batch sign off, bulk batches and trouble shooting.
• Working under GMP, GLP and Health and Safety guidelines.
• Managing general good housekeeping of the laboratory and associated areas.

• At least two years new product development experience and strong interest in new and innovative raw materials and techniques.
• A solid academic background supported by a diploma in cosmetic science or degree in cosmetic science or similar discipline.
• Good odour discrimination and colour matching skills.
• Good interpersonal skills as well as ability to communicate well, both written and verbal.
• Self motivated, flexible and confident in dealing with other team members.
• Able to work under time pressure and meet tight deadlines.
• Confident use of Microsoft Office and general PC use.

We offer a competitive salary within the range £28 000 to £32 000 per annum (depending on experience. 23 Days holiday, pension scheme and assistance with relocation if necessary. 37.5 hour working week.
Our rural location means that your own transport is essential.
