The client:

My client is a highly successful Regional Construction Company that work from several regional offices. They work within a variety of sectors including Education, Health, Leisure, Industrial and Mixed Use. They work for several different clients but have been able to increase turnover year on year as most of their work is repeat business with clients, they have worked with for years being a factor for them having an order book which is secured for the next 12 months.

The Candidate:

Responsible for managing and challenging the production of accurate and effective deign information for the design & build projects.

The Design Manager will work closely with both Commercial and the Operational team as well as external design consultants and subcontractors.

Applicants must have experience working for a large regional contractor and have worked as the project lead on projects ranging from £2million to £20million.

Minimum of 5 years’ experience on - site

The role:
Carry out a technical review of all documents submitted by subcontract designs.

The Design Manager Will Manage and ensure effective briefing of the Design Team including M&E elements. This includes the management of any 3rd parties or novated design teams to ensure that they meet all customer specifications and where necessary, checking the competence and resources of any incumbent design teams or 3rd parties.

Provide advice and guidance on the “buildability” of the design proposals to the design and construction teams on all packages.

Liaise with all statutory bodies/authorities as required – such as town planning, building control and services e.g., gas and water.

Support the Safety by Design & Engineering forum or other similar forums, representing the business stream, as required.
