My Client are a leading Main Contractor specializing in a range of sectors from commercial and industrial warehousing, distribution and storage space to retail, education and life sciences projects. The company deliver construction projects for a variety of clients. Their teams have an excellent reputation and have extensive experience of working in partnership with clients, across a diverse sector base.

The Role:

Reporting to the Estimating Director, the Head of Estimating will manage the estimating resources and processes to support the generation of profitable tenders.
• Manage the Estimating team, resources and processes in the business unit
• Accurately estimate the costs of projects to maximise the order pipeline and its conversion into market share, revenue and operating profit within the business unit
• Support the generation of profitable tenders for authorisation and submission
• Estimate the costs of projects in order to achieve or exceed clients’ needs
• Recognize contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities to mitigate risk and increase gross profit
• Support the fulfillment of the pipeline of contracts, on time, and to the required quality while maximising gross profit and Clients’ satisfaction
• To support the development of the functional strategy and implement all company policies
• Promote the companies values towards its Clients to meet or exceed expectations
• Support the process of assessing, preparing (including post-tender activities), validating, adjudication and final submission of tenders on time and to the highest quality
• To support the handover of the project plan (PEP) to the fulfillment team (procurement, contract management, commercial management and project management

Commercial Leadership:

Recognise contractual, financial, technical and operational risks and to find opportunities to minimise risk and maximise gross profit. To support the achievement of the annual financial budget (operating profit). To take full leadership responsibility for the commercial performance of the estimating division in the region. To provide accurate, consolidated reports and forecasts for the business unit and company on finance, operational performance, capability and capacity, policies and procedures compliance. To be involved in recruitment when require. To support the generation of profitable tenders. To negotiate with suppliers and subcontractors

Management and Leadership:

To lead, manage and motivate the business unit’s estimating staff and to establish its full commercial contribution to the business. To ensure team members adhere to company systems, procedures and policies. Take a hands on approach when needed to support the generation of tenders. Lead the estimating team ensuring accountability and leadership of the targets and metrics required within the business to ensure commercial success. Create and implement a culture of high-performance and discipline. Appraise direct reports, set objectives and identify training and development required. Coach, motivate and support staff within the business unit.

The Ideal Candidate:
• Be experienced managing an estimating team within a large construction main contractor
• Have experience and an understanding of different procurement routes and tender processes
• Be capable of effectively managing the estimating resources (people and finance)
• Be process driven
• Be self-motivated and able to motivate others
• Structured and analytical approach
• Strong operational skills, detail orientated and able to manage a team
• Able to develop business relationships in the customer base at the highest level
• Evidence of strong leadership and personal authority, as well as communication skills
• High degree of integrity
• Ability to assess priorities, developing and implementing effective long term plans
