Kenton Black are representing a dynamic, successful professional financial firm within St Albans area who due to continued business success and growth are seeking a Payroll Assistant Manager to work alongside the Payroll Manager within this friendly payroll team. You will undertake a hands on role, assisting to manage the team together with reviewing and processing multi-interval client payrolls for a diverse client base consisting of both large and small volume payrolls. You will be instrumental and autonomous to lead by example and proactive in payroll procedures and client service.
This is an exceptional career opportunity as Payroll Assistant Manager, for an experienced and competent payroll professional with previous team supervisory/management experience, who has solid technical knowledge of systems and procedures in particular to tax codes, PAYE, auto enrolment/pensions and comfortable running the department from the front in the absence of the Payroll Manager. It is envisaged that the successful candidate will have previous practice accountancy/bureau experience and possess great problem solving and client relationship skills. Payroll Assistant Manager Key Duties & Responsibilities include:
Leading the team in absence of the Payroll Manager and supporting in the management and running of an effective payroll department alongside the Payroll Manager
Payroll processing Fortnightly, Monthly & Quarterly- STAR/IRIS (experience ideal but training is provided)
Responding to client queries
Overseeing and dealing with RTI procedures & HMRC liaison
Holiday pay calculations, SMP & SSP
Auto-enrolment pension processing
Setting up of PAYE schemes
Solid understanding of statutory payments and how processed via payroll
Understanding of manual calculations of Tax, National Insurance and the impact of varied tax codes
Collating and inputting of payroll information
Working as part of a busy payroll team
Attention to detail, able to motivate and provide a smooth payroll service
Knowledge of Word/Excel
Previous experience of running full end to end /fortnightly/monthly & quarterly payrolls ideally within an accountancy/bureau practice - Industry experienced will also be considered
Knowledge of IRIS/STAR (training can be provided)
Flexible and adaptable approach
Possess strong communication skills
Friendly personality, able to work in a team environment and lead/supervise a payroll team alongside the Payroll Manager
